An Intercontinental Double Bay Wedding

An elopement wedding particularly at the Intercontinental Double Bay is a truly fun wedding to photograph, the hotel architecture is amazing. Canadians Valerie and Jean Sebastien are currently working here in Australia and decided to have an elopement wedding at the Intercontinental Double Bay. Valerie’s parents were visiting from Canada so other than them, Toni Elsley (Celebrant) from Breathe Easy Weddings, myself and Jean Sebastians family who were present on skype, that was it for the wedding attendees.

Today, technology stood in the way of progress. It was fantastic and hilarious at the same time listening to the instructions (spoken in French) flying backwards and forwards over the telephone and computer in a frantic bid to get two skype sessions working so the family could be a witness to the ceremony. Finally after a many attempts and a substantial amount of time, all was working perfectly and the ceremony was underway.

Valerie was stunning in her bridal dress. I honestly have not seen a dress like it before, it was truly beautiful. Jean Sebastien (JS for short) was equally dapper and the couple looked gorgeous together. Toni did a lovely job of officiating, and as small as it was, the ceremony was entertaining and emotional. JS just couldn’t hold back the tears as he read his vows. After the ceremony was finished, we took a few photos in the room with Valerie, JS and their family (physically present and over the satellite feed). They were extremely pleased to be able to be in the family photos, even if it was through a digital device.

What made this wedding so much fun to photograph was that we could go out and spend much more time photographing really cool images in many more places because there wasn’t the restriction of time and having to be back for the reception. With a typical wedding, you can achieve this by choosing a package that has a bridal session included. By Valerie and JS having an Intercontinental Double Bay wedding, we were able to shoot in and around the hotel. There are so many options for brilliant photos, and I can’t wait to photograph another wedding there. You can see some of the photos taken from the day below.
